halfteamswholegames

Halfatree is Jack Halferty's one-person game studio, built around the belief that small teams can still make focused, memorable games.

01

One clear vision

No layers of middle management between the idea and the game.

02

Small by design

A focused scope can make room for stronger decisions and stranger ideas.

03

Built to be played

Fun, affordable games with the directness of the early 2000s.

The studio idea

A smaller way to build.

Modern game development can become expensive, slow, and difficult to steer. Halfatree keeps the team deliberately tiny so the work can stay personal, coherent, and close to the player.

Keep the scope honest

Make the game that the team can finish well instead of the game that needs a thousand people to survive.

Follow the interesting part

Spend time on the mechanic, mood, or interaction that gives the project its own identity.

Remember the player

Clarity, affordability, and a complete experience matter more than chasing scale for its own sake.

Currently in the log

Playing, replaying, noticing.

The diary is an ongoing record of what I am playing and what each game is teaching me about design, pacing, systems, and feeling.
